Julius Ochs Adler was nephew to Adolph Ochs, the publisher of the . Adler worked in various capacities at the , including general manager, vice president, and was an original executor and trustee of the company. In addition he also served as president and publisher of the Chattanooga Times. He was a retired officer in the Army, having served in both World Wars. The collection contains correspondence, memoranda, newspaper clippings, photographs, and legal documents. Approximately one-third of the material deals with the Ochs Estate. Most of the remainder concerns Adler's military service, along with some family and personal material: there are relatively few documents pertaining to the operation of the .
